What is life-threatening is also life-giving.
Gospel of a Whole Sun (dir. Blake Jackson) takes us on a dreamlike journey through heartbreak, healing, and arrival. Set against the backdrop of the political and gender-based violence in the United States during the pandemic, these poems are adapted from Katerina Jeng’s namesake poetry book; and craft a universe lush with nourishment for anyone finding their way.
This poetic short film holds a light to the darkness, and reveals the power in welcoming it all. Settle into verdant landscapes of windswept fields and ripe berries, and let yourself break open with visceral choreography captured in monochrome. Feel the beauty and terror of holding your lifeblood in your own hands. At the boundary where sun meets soil, stream licks shore, our dreams finally find us—free, and fully awake.
Through lyric and body, the poet attunes to the tender register joining love and liberation, and shares it with us through this work of art. This is the song of a year cracked open. Of devils and angels befriended. Of divine femininity. Of love, sovereign. Watch and listen with your whole heart.
